I am a qualified teacher with specialisms in Spanish, Geography & Irish. I have worked as a teacher in Ireland, Australia and the UK. I teach children the way I want my son to be taught. I try to make colourful resources that will engage and make teachers and students lives easier. I don't always get it right but I'm always learning and striving to. Claddagh Classrooms

This is a nice simple lesson to use for your younger year groups this Valentines Day, or when you want to do something different. This set contains 24 images for students to become familiar with and a also a task to help students create a fairytale of their own. Set your kids off in groups looking up the vocabulary supplied on the sheets. I allow my students use www.tearma.ie to do this. Bring your class together and check that all vocabulary is correct. Using the questions on the final sheet encourage your students to write a brief fairytale of their own using their new vocabulary. A stretch activity could be that they illustrate it later. For a mixed ability class I prepare the written aspect on the board first. We look at possible verbs to use and additional vocabulary that could be used during their composition Claddagh Classrooms Please note these are in .pdf format only. The graphics come from the wonderful Creative Clips. Please see see link below to her wonderful shop: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Krista-Wallden-Creative-Clips

There are 3 tasks: Matching exercise Unscramble the words Word search I find puzzles great for vocabulary recognition and acquisition and i like these sorts of tasks for starters/plenaries. This resource is also colourful and fun and makes my lot smile when I use it. NOTE: This is a .PDF. The clip art is from the wonderful Creating for the Classroom.

Lá Fhéíle Vailintín Valentine's day (As Gaeilge)

These are simple resources to introduce the topic of St. Valentines Day in Irish. This resource contains three activities: Heart Emojis: This s a nice simple task where students match the heart emoji to the feeling it represents. This is lovely for reinforcing the idea of ‘AR’ and also for revision of ‘móthúcháin’ Matching Cards: WIth this resource I have attached two files. One bank and one filled it. Sometimes my students like to wrote their own vocabulary down so they can write the phonetic pronounciation below. These are great for teaching the initial vocabulary, then asking the students to chop everything up and have a go at matching it themselves. There are so many games you can play with cards like these and they are a class favourite for my younger year groups for acquiring new vocabulary. Fill in the Blanks: I don’t think it needs explaining. Great for a plenary. Challenge the students by asking them to do it without their notes. PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE.PDF’s ONLY!!! Happy Valentine’s Day! Be sure to check out my other Valentine’s Day resources:)

Tórthaí & Glasraí Fruit & Vegetables Vocab Booklet

This wee booklet is good for vocabulary acquisition. Rather than giving students list of vocabulary and getting them to use it or just learn it, i like to scaffold for my less able pupils. I generally find with these tasks their retention is better. I then use these. I love using these type of activities for starters and plenaries too when we’re progressing to full sentences or fully written pieces. The .PDF contains: One sheet of fruit pictures where students can look up vocab or you can provide it. One sheet of vegetables pictures where students can look up vocab or you can provide it. Fill in the gaps using the vocab. A word search Translation activity. (I divide my class and let more able work by themselves and I scaffold with less able) A game of X’s and 0’s. There are 4 games. These are great to test their knowledge and fun too. Any issues email claddaghclassrooms@gmail.com and i’ll resolve them within 24 hours. Bain taitneamh as!

Wee booklet for scrúdúbéíl about Fadhbanna Sóisialta (Social Problems) I found this on line when I first started teaching and now I’ve finally managed to put it all together for people to use with their students. The author of this document is clearly incredible to share this and the credit they deserve is immense!

Lá Fhéile Pádraig Display - St. Patrick's Day Display as Gaeilge

UPDATED 2020 Simple display cards to get your room and your students in the festive Irish spirit. My students love St. Patrick’s Day and the display is nice when surrounded by students work. Alternatively use the activity attached also. I use these as a game first to introduce the vocabulary to my students. They are placed around my room and students are given a list of St. Patrick’s Day vocabulary in English. They then have to find the Irish equivalent. It’s nice to watch students discover the vocabulary themselves as opposed to looking at a PowerPoint and writing everything down in a vocabulary book. Once the lesson is finished they can go onto a display board. Please note this is a .pdf only:) Bain taitneamh as:)

These are wee little cards that i print back to back, laminate and give them to my pupils. I expect that they try to use them when they’re communicating with me in lessons and I always have rewards on hand when they do. I love that they fit into their pencil cases and are with the students no matter what lesson they’re in. I find them so effective! Bain taitneamh as:)
